As we concluded our “All In” series about discovering our spiritual gifts, someone asked me about the categories we used to break down spiritual gifts, so I’d like to post them for you below. It’s a simple tool to BEGIN (it doesn’t have all the answers) to identify and develop your own spiritual gifts.
Perhaps these groupings below will help you see how different gifts work together. Each group reflect part of the nature & role of Jesus Christ himself. Spiritual gifts are an extension of Jesus’ ministry through us.
Prophetic Gifts (understanding & communicating truth):
- Evangelism (Eph. 4:11)
- Teaching (1 Cor. 12:29)
- Knowledge (1 Cor. 12:8)
- Discernment (1 Cor. 12:10)
- Prophecy (Eph. 4:11, 1 Cor. 12:10)
Priestly Gifts (identifying and supplying basic needs):
- Encouragement (Rom. 12:8)
- Helping (1 Cor. 12:28)
- Shepherding (1 Cor. 12:28)
- Serving (Rom. 12:7)
- Giving (Rom. 12:8)
- Mercy (Rom. 12:8)
Kingly Gifts (understanding direction and group needs):
- Apostles (Eph. 4:11; 1 Cor. 12:28)
- Leadership (Rom. 12:8)
- Administration (1 Cor. 12:28)
- Wisdom (1 Cor. 12:8)
- Faith (1 Cor. 12:9)
