BeTheLight _City of Lights

The City of Lights. Paris is an amazing city – a hub of travel, culture, commerce, fashion, and culinary wonder. However, Paris is not a city of lights spiritually.

It is our heart to see every person come to know the personal relationship that is available in Jesus. We know that statistically a very small percentage of people in Paris are Christ followers. It is our prayer and vision to see this change.

Jesus tells his disciples in Matthew 5:14-16:

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

This scripture challenges us to ‘let your light shine’. As a kid I learned a song that goes..

“This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine..”  (quite a catchy tune. It is now likely stuck in your head)

In sharing our light with others we are the Jesus that they see.

Paul wrote to the church at Corinth an encouragement in this endeavor:

“for what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 4:5-6)

Our challenge then is clear: wherever we go, be the light of Jesus. If we want to see a different city of Paris, a city of spiritual light, we need to let our light shine.

How are you being the light today?
