“You are going to talk about what?” Surviving the Seven Deadly Sins.
A first thought, the idea of focusing a new sermon series on ‘deadly sins’ is not that appealing. Not in the ‘avoiding difficult topics’ or ‘hard to explain’ categories but in the ‘this is very negative’ sense. That is why is ‘Surviving’ and not merely a focus on our shortcomings.
The scriptures give us ample examples of a better way to live. One of the best assessments of our character growing towards God is the Fruit of the Spirit found in Galatians 5 verses 22 through 24. We find a list of characteristics that help us to live like Christ. Our focus for the series is to take a look at what the Fruit of the Spirit say as a counter to the Seven Deadly Sins.
In Matthew 7:16-18 we see the image of fruit growing. The type of plant yields a specific kind of fruit. A good tree good fruit, and a bad tree bad fruit.
The question for each of us is “What kind of fruit is my life producing?”
Let’s learn to live out a godly character and survive the Seven Deadly Sins.
